I am qualified Clinical and Consulting Psychologist (MSc – Clinical Psychology & PhD – Industrial Psychology) with vast experience in Specialist, Senior and Executive Management roles in government, parastatals and private corporates. I have been the Head of Employee Assistance Programmes and Organisational Development within the South African Post Office and shaped Employee Wellness practices and policies and entrenching those in organisational structures and functioning. I have headed multi-layered departments with a responsibility to integrate Talent and Succession, Transformation, Employment Equity, Organisational Dynamics, Organisational Culture management, Diversity Management, Assessment and Development Centres, Performance Management, Leadership Development, Capacity Building, Change Management, Reward and Recognition Management. I am Chief Executive of a company I founded in 2008 – Psychwell where I deliver needs-based solutions to organisations. I am a well-rounded Psychologist, Executive Coach, Mentor, Speaker, Writer, Strategist and Change Catalyst passionate about maximising people’s mental health, potential, performance and capacity as well as facilitating transformative agenda in organisations.
This presentations aims to marry the organisational development constructs with Employee Assistance Programmes not discounting the fact that the latter should be the integral part of the former. It is aimed at revisiting the positioning of Employee Assistance Programs’ Departments/Units within the organisation using Organisational Development prescripts and Organisational Design Measures. We will also evaluate the strategic partnership of Employee Assistance Programs Departments with other key organisational metrices such Performance Management, Job design, Employee and Industrial Relations, Role profiling, Competency frameworks, Leadership Management and Organisational Culture amongst others. We will aim to position EAP within the Psyche of the Organisation and facilitate a discussion of where EAP Professionals are included and/or excluded. The presentation will highlight the likely consequences of exclusion in relation to organisational dynamics.
Furthermore, delegates will be exposed to functional Organisational Development prescripts that the Employee Assistance Programmes must respond to. We will discuss the antecedents of work engagement as it is the premise upon which Employee Assistance Programs are based and how these relate to Organisational Development measures. Central to the tenets that will be discussed will be the broader Talent Management scope not as narrowly implemented in most organisations. We will also explore the relationship of self-efficacy, job demands, job resources, psychological conditions and how those relate to health and organisational commitment. This is aimed elevating the critical organisational development role of Employee Assistance Programs.
